- Know Who You Are Supporting -- Beware of Scams
Pay attention to which hospice group is soliciting your support. Some are not located in our area.
Center for Hospice Care, headquartered in South Bend, serves eight area counties. Hospice Foundation is the supporting foundation for Hospice Care. It conducts two mail campaigns annually, soliciting financial contributions. No solicitations are done by phone.
All money raised stays in that service area and is used for patient care. This business has an A+ rating with Better Business Bureau.
Hospice Support Foundation of Merrifield, Va., also solicits by direct mail. A request for contributions may appear to be local as the appeal names each area being solicited, such as Elkhart, South Bend, Plymouth and more.
Funds collected for the Hospice Support Fund supports only New Hope Foundation. New Hope Foundation chooses not to disclose any information to the BBB Wise Giving Alliance. This business has no BBB rating because it offers services which are outside the scope of BBB evaluations, according to the Better Business Bureau serving Metro Washington, D.C., and eastern Pennsylvania.
Because the names are similar, financial supporters sometimes find they have made a contribution to one, but really meant it for the other. For this reason we say don’t confuse one with the other. It is important to know what your money is or is not supporting.
